Residents Sue City
Two months after a local law firm filed a formal request for information from Greenville officials, a group comprised mainly of Tar River-University Neighborhood residents has taken the next step. They’re taking the city to court, battling a new ordinance which increases from three to four the number of unrelated occupants permitted to reside in homes in their section of the city.
The Guardian will be watching and reporting on this story as it develops. For now, you can read the full court filing here.

I am very supportive of the plaintiffs’ suit against the City and encourage everyone who is concerned about preserving all of our residential neighborhoods to visit the Save Our Neighborhoods Facebook page for information on supporting this brave group of citizens. This ordinance was passed by the City Council against the will of the citizens in the neighborhood, the advice of Planning and Zoning, the Historic Preservation Commission, the Neighborhood Advisory Board, East Carolina University, and nearly 80% the citizens who commented during the public input sessions. It does not represent the democratic process, instead the power of special interests.
